Silnice LK Project Wins Project of the Year at SEF Awards 2026

15 October 2026 | Smart Energy Forum, Prague

The project to electrify a vehicle fleet using photovoltaics and battery energy storage systems in the Liberec Region has won the SEF Awards 2026 in the Project of the Year category. Delivered by PV SERVICE PLUS for Silnice LK a.s., the project demonstrates how an entire fleet of electric vehicles can be charged even where the distribution grid has reached its capacity limits – without building a new transformer substation.

PV SERVICE PLUS and Silnice LK receive the Project of the Year award at SEF Awards 2026

On 15 October 2026, the organisers of Smart Energy Forum 2026 presented the SEF Awards 2026 Project of the Year award in Prague to the project Electrification of a Vehicle Fleet Using PV and BESS in the Liberec Region. The award was received by PV SERVICE PLUS s.r.o. and Silnice LK a.s.

We are delighted by this recognition. It also confirms that the transition to electric mobility does not have to wait for upgrades to the electricity distribution network.

When Grid Capacity Is Not Enough

Silnice LK is transitioning to a zero-emission vehicle fleet that includes passenger cars, commercial vehicles and heavy-duty machinery.

However, the company’s operating facility has a grid connection limited to just 110 kW with 160 A protection. This is insufficient to charge a larger number of vehicles simultaneously.

Increasing the contracted connection capacity or constructing a new transformer substation was neither technically nor economically feasible at this location.

1 MW of Power and 2 MWh of Energy Storage Capacity

The solution combines on-site electricity generation, battery storage and intelligent energy management:

  • A 99 kWp photovoltaic power plant installed on the facility’s roof.
  • A battery energy storage system with 1 MW of power and 2 MWh of capacity, consisting of ten FOX ESS G-MAX cabinets operating in parallel as one integrated system.
  • Charging infrastructure with approximately 14 charging points for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • PV SERVICE PLUS’s proprietary Energy Management System (EMS), which controls the entire installation.

During the day, surplus electricity generated by the photovoltaic system is stored in the batteries. The stored energy is then supplied whenever several vehicles need to be charged at the same time.

The battery storage system covers peak power demand without increasing electricity consumption from the distribution grid beyond the existing connection limit.

The solution uses the facility’s existing 400 V internal electrical infrastructure and requires neither central inverters nor a new transformer substation.

Proprietary Energy Management Is the Key

The individual technologies do not operate independently. They are connected through our proprietary Energy Management System (EMS), which controls energy flows between the distribution grid, photovoltaic power plant, battery storage system and charging stations in real time.

The EMS takes into account current PV generation, facility consumption, battery state of charge, scheduled vehicle departures, weather forecasts and electricity market prices.

At the same time, it ensures that the facility’s electricity demand from the grid never exceeds the permitted connection limit.

“The foundation of the entire solution is our proprietary EMS – Energy Management System,” says Eduard Michna, Technical Director of PV SERVICE PLUS.

The project demonstrates that successful energy installations are not determined solely by the installed power of individual technologies.

Equally important are proper system design, seamless integration and intelligent control of all components as one functional unit.

A Scalable and Replicable Solution

The system has a modular architecture, allowing additional battery cabinets to be installed as the electric vehicle fleet expands.

The same approach can be applied to municipal technical services, public transport operators, logistics centres and industrial facilities where the existing electricity network is not designed to accommodate higher power demand.

We see the SEF Awards 2026 Project of the Year recognition as an acknowledgement of a solution that responds to real operational needs while respecting the limitations of existing energy infrastructure.

It also reinforces our belief that the future of corporate energy systems lies in the intelligent integration of electricity generation, energy storage and advanced energy management.

We would like to thank Silnice LK a.s. for their trust and cooperation, FOX ESS for their partnership in delivering the project, and the organisers of Smart Energy Forum for this prestigious recognition.
